Our church offers a "Disciple class". It is a nine month course, meeting one day a week
with appropriate breaks for holidays and "just because" days.
As a proud alumni of both Disciple I & II, I would like to encourage
anyone who has the opportunity to participate in this Bible study to do so.
You may think, "I'm not a scholar." It doesn't matter. "I'm too old." Bet I'm older!
"I don't have the time." Of course you do. Prioritize. It will take daily readings,
contemplation, and prayer; but this is a "good" thing. Your days are more positive
and more profitable in the best sense of the word.
Learning about the powerful and colorful figures in the Old Testament such as David...
from shepherd boy to king; wise King Solomon, Moses, Elijah, Samson... the list
goes on and on. Tie all that together with the birth of Jesus and the change
from Law to Grace. The beginning of the Christian Church. The great teachers in the
New Testament, like Paul, John, Luke, Stephen, Barnabus. God took the most humble,
the most arrogant, the most unqualified, the most unlikely candidates, and transformed
their lives. He accepted their faults and weaknesses and used them to build His earthly
kingdom.
As a personal testimony... It has been a spiritual awakening for me.
I have a new appreciation for the sacredness of every life. I have a more active prayer life,
and I feel the spirit of God challenging me.
Obviously, one cannot recount every lesson discussed and every blessing received,
but you will receive much more than you contribute and that's a promise!
I leave you with this thought from 1 Corinthians 13:13 -- "And now faith,
hope and love abide. These three... and the greatest of these is Love."
Blessings in His name,
Faye Huneycutt
