It’s a good idea to check with a youth leader and/or check the schedule for changes in plans and for upcoming activities. We do take frequent field trips and participate in service projects throughout the year.

UMY welcomes new members, and joining does NOT require that you are a member of this church. We invite all teens in our local community to join in the fun, fellowship, service and praise!

There are five areas of ministry that we focus our attention to help us grow in Christ, and they are:

WORSHIP Ministry

To praise God. To give thanks. To share our gifts. To offer ourselves. To celebrate or faith. To strengthen our faith.

EXPLORATIONS Ministry

To explore issues of faith, of the Bible, of our lives. To ask questions, to search together for understanding and guidance.

Ministry WITHIN the CONGREGATION

To take an active role in the life of the church. To minister to older and younger members of the congregation, as well as get to know them and let them know us.

SERVICE Ministry

To respond to God’s call to love and serve others through hands-on-service beyond our congregation. To develop a lifestyle of caring for those in need.

FELLOWSHIP Ministry

To get to know each other. To learn how to affirm others. To build community. To build trust. To build relationships and a spirit of teamwork. To enjoy being together as Christians. To reach out and invite other youth.

These five areas of ministry are transformed from ideas to actions when we as individuals join together in teams to support and achieve the goals set for the entire group. The “team” approach not only facilitates our ambitions, they offer us a chance to serve God. The teams that are offered are:

Adult Participation in UMY

UMY is a vital element of our church community, and adult’s involvement can have a major influence in the fabric of young people’s lives. The teens of our church can and will have an impact on the lives of other teens in our community, on the future of our country, and on the future of our world. We all need to help prepare them for this responsibility by being strong spiritual and community leaders ourselves. A good way to do this by spending time with them and leading by example.

How can you help? We are always in need of adult leaders and volunteers. Qualifications include, enjoy spending time with young people, and a love for God.

Here’s the kind of things we need help with:

  • Adult UMY leaders

Spend a few Sunday evenings and be a role model. You will discover rewards you never knew existed.

  • Volunteers to prepare dinners

Prepare a meal for about 20-30 people. We hope to have enough volunteers that no one has to repeat during the school year. Contact Sheila Templeton at 731-8304 if you are interested in helping out with food.

  • Chaperones and Adult Drivers

UMY frequently takes trips, and we are in constant need of adults to chaperone and serve as drivers. Contact Rev. Ray Surratt at 764-9630 if you are interested in helping out.
